"A Ride with a Pirate"
Virginia Beach, VA – February 2007 – Pieces of Eight Pirate Cruise is looking forward to another successful year using their Supreme Built Classic American Tram. One year ago in March they received their tram and had it themed with their logos and contact information. This tram was chosen over other trams in the industry because of its open-air design and resort style features.
Their Classic American Tram seats 28 adult passengers with bench seating and features a public address system. It is built on a Ford E-350 cutaway chassis powered by a 5.4L V8 gasoline engine and automatic transmission. This tram is unique in that it is Altoona tested and legal to drive on public streets.
The tram runs a ½ mile route eight times daily from May 1 to November 30. The passengers can ride the tram from the parking lot to the marina where the Pieces of Eight Pirate Cruise ship is located. There is no cost for the riders to take the tram back and forth. If parking becomes available closer to where the ship is docked, the tram will be used to pick up passengers at local campgrounds and resorts.
The riders have had a positive response because the tram is open-aired in the warm, resort-like environment. The tram has also made the cruise ship experience more memorable. Not only is the driver of the tram dressed like a pirate, but when the tram arrives at the marina a pirate jumps out and welcomes them.
Because the ship is docked at a marina two blocks inland, it isn’t seen by the ocean front tourists until it is underway on the Atlantic Ocean. The tram does a great job at giving the Pieces of Eight Cruise exposure and advertising on the resort strip.
